Mrs. Ochiai's visit

Yesterday Mrs. Ochiai came over to work on her Great Aussie Quilt.

Mrs. Ochiai does not like cats. She and Choco are very friendly but she freezes when a cat walks by. For some strange reason, the cats want to check out Mrs. Ochiai. I have other friends and students who LOVE cats and they BEG the cats to come sit on their laps but nary a look their way. So why, when Mrs. Ochiai would like my cats to take a long nap in another room, do they all come running, rub her ankles, climb up on her chair and sit nearby watching her like a hawk?! When Mrs. Ochiai comes over I feel like I have 10 cats, not just 5. They follow her from room to room and jump up to be near her. She can't bear to touch them so I am constantly grabbing cats and dropping them back to the floor.

We escaped to Vel's room which was better because then Mrs. Ochiai had only to contend with Vel but even normally wary Vel had to come and sit on Mrs. Ochiai's project. I got a great picture of the fear on Mrs. Ochiai's face when Vel came and sat in front of her but she didn't want that posted on my blog... Look at how her hands are frozen to her side as Vel comes over for a visit!

Well, Mrs. Ochiai got three of her Aussie quilt blocks fastened and I spent the time shooing cats away and working on the embroidery for the Round Robin. A very productive day!

Oh this made me laugh. Cats DO know, don't they? They also know if someone is allergic, and rub all over them.

Cats ALWAYS come to non-cat people! I have years of experience to prove it. Now that we have cats, they leave me alone :)

My cats have always chosen the one person in the room who doesn't like cats or is allergic and walk right up to them, sit down and fix them with that steady cat stare. The person usually gets really nervous. Cats can be contrary critters, for sure.

Wonderful job!

People who dislike or are unsure of cats certainly seem to be walking cat magnets - wonder why?

That's me - the cat magnet! That is what happens every time when I visit my sister the cat that never comes out for company comes out for me.

My friend Carol is much like Mrs. Ochiai and Bodacious is good enough to leave her alone. When we had Jack, he couldn't possibly do that! And for some reason, when we had Phoebe, the Persian, Carol didn't mind her. Great embroidery!

Oh, poor lady! But, I never could understand why people are scared of cats. Usually they are quiet, and when they are affectionate they are gentle. A big, jumping, barking dog is a lot more scary to me! Our last cat Sasha had an especial gift for picking out the non-cat person in the room and mounting a total "win-em-over" assault. I think that's what's going on: a cat simply cannot believe that there are people in the world that don't love them!

Cats want to be liked, and can sense when someone doesn't like them. They will try to make friends with that person.

I love cats but am so allergic!I know better than to touch one but they sure try hard with me. My sister had a cat that ignored everyone but when I would stay with her the cat would sleep on my head,LOL!

How do cats do it...they always go to the person that is allergic or doesn't like cats...never to the lover of cats like me!

Yep. Me too. I'm allergic and cats always make a beeline for my lap. Sigh. :-)
