Surprise

My bags are unpacked! I found out why I had to pay that extra $50 for overweight baggage. Too much stock for my sewing room!

I wonder if I can keep justifying my spending on my sewing "hobby". With my well stocked sewing room I really ought to have a business (but then that wouldn't be any fun, would it?) I find that I bought two new cutting mats, a revolving cutting mat, a thread holder, a ruler holder, three rulers, two roller cutters, scissors, thread, pins, needles, a sewing foot, a spotlight (from IKEA and it clips on to different surfaces!), and fabric, fabric, fabric. I can hardly wait to spend a few hours in the sewing room!

In the meantime, I cleaned and pulled weeds and discovered that our little blueberry bush has become a big blueberry bush! For years I've wanted to be able to pick blueberries and we've bought three or four bushes but they all died out. I guess one lived just from oversight because this spring Tetsu wanted to know where the big bush came from and if he could take it out. When I looked I exclaimed

"Don't touch that! It is actually a blueberry bush!"

I am so amazed to come back from the States and find the bush heavy with big, plump blueberries! Maybe the bush is so close to Choco's kennel that she scared all the birds away. Anyway, I "harvested" yesterday and we ate blueberries with our granola this morning!!! Delicious! Why is it I suddenly feel like a farmer that has grown her own food!

Why Tanya, of course you can justify spending on your hobby. It's therapy. It keeps your blood pressure down. It's cheaper than yachting. Oh, I can think of a million reasons.
I'm so jealous of your blueberry bush - so yummy!!!!!!!

What a nice surprise to come home to. I want a revolving cutting mat. I guess I'll have to put it on my list.

I love my revolving mat for trimming blocks to size.

I've been sewing at a slower pace this summer and I wondered what would happen if one day I lost interest in quilting ... such a big investment in this hobby - hopefully I'll enjoy it for many more years.

What a wonderful haul of goodies you brought home. I've never seen a revolving cutter, but it looks so useful. I know what you mean about 'feeling like a farmer'. We've got a decent sized vegetable patch for the first time since we moved, and we've been eating our own cabbages, peas, swiss chard, broad beans, lettuce and radishes and it feels SO satisfying. Enjoy your blueberries.

Blueberries are my favorite fruit! Too early for them here still, but I did spend much of yesterday cleaning/slicing strawberries!

A girl can't have too much sewing and quilting stuff! I recently bought a rotating cutting mat like yours. The LQS gives us "points" for spending and when I filled a card, I used it for part of the cost of the mat, which made the purchase even nicer for me. Wow, your own fresh blueberries, how wonderful. We have a source where we can buy them locally and they are homegrown and delicious but not as fun as having one's very own bush. :)

You got some good stuff on your shoppihng trips! I love the revolving cutting mat - I have one and it helps when you make trim-to-size blocks. And the little IKEA light looks adorable (and probably cost less than my Bendable Bright Light). But I was surprised at the spool rack. In a household with cats? Yours must not have the thread addiction mine does!

Welcome home, glad to see you're safely back. How's Tetsu's knee injury? I hope it will heal without any intervention.
