Quite often Japanese commercials will run in a series and a story will evolve over the months or even years. One of Tetsu's favorites is a long run canned coffee commercial starring Tommy Lee Jones. I have a feeling Mr. Jones made it big time in Japan after his movie Men In Black which featured aliens that hid out in human bodies... (I accidentally went to this movie years ago not realizing the alien theme... "Oh, GROSS!")
In the Japanese commercials "Alien Jones" who likes canned coffee, experiences earthling (Japanese) life. There must be 14 or 15 commercials out now and Tommy Lee Jones rarely says anything and never smiles. Occasionally he lets his "alienness" hang out when he becomes perturbed about something (he didn't think Japanese parents discipline their kids enough) and he's picked up a few Japanese mannerisms during his stay (he can bow at the proper 90 degree angle.)
In the most recent commercial Alien Jones makes the observation while spanning centuries of earthling life, joining the throngs of workers building China's Great Wall, Egypt's pyramids and Japan's city streets, that earthlings would have had it a lot easier if they'd remained monkeys.I sort of like Tommy Lee Jones and despite his somber expression he must have a sense of humor to allow himself to be portrayed in such comical commercial segments. He probably makes a lot of money in them too!

Your advertisements sound fun. We get so bored with the adverts cutting into television programmes, and usually switch to something else for a few minutes or turn the sound down, or use the time to pop out and make a cup of tea or go to the loo. Thank goodness for the BBC, which has no adverts at all; we tend to watch the BBC whenever possible.
Those sound like great commercials. There are times I like the commercials better than the show. Football for example, has great commercials. There is even a show that plays nothing but funny commercials - it doesn't come on very often though.
You must be up now...I see a new post came on while I was off watching youtube...I put alien jones in the search and found the commercials and then spent time watching them. Chris and Mike even came over to the computer to watch. Tommy Lee did smile for a little cute puppy...right before it bit his finger.
Oh man...you get better commercials than we do! I'd love to see these Alien Jones ones. I think he has a fabulous sense of humor - very deadpan.
I gave up watching commercials. They are so bad. Your commercials sound like little movies. Fun to watch! That would be a change.
I'm glad you mentioned Japanese TV commercials...my daughter used to record (VCR) some for me 10 years ago when she lived in Kagoshima! They are great, and I still watch them all the time!!
