A poppy

I love poppies. I wonder why. I like their strange furriness. I like the primitive way they insist in dropping their outer hull from the tip of the flower down to the stem. I like their crinkly petals when they escape their hulls and I love the way they pull themselves from a bowed position to revel in the glory of the sun.

Tetsu brought me some poppies a couple of days ago that I thought might not make it because they were so stooped and dried out looking. This morning one flower has lifted its head and with it's vibrant orange (who imagined such color could be hidden in that hull!) has brightened the window sill. The other buds are sure to follow today!
