Tetsu brought me some poppies a couple of days ago that I thought might not make it because they were so stooped and dried out looking. This morning one flower has lifted its head and with it's vibrant orange (who imagined such color could be hidden in that hull!) has brightened the window sill. The other buds are sure to follow today!

I love poppies too Tanya - so pretty!
I think your love for God's creatures made these flowers open up for you. You know how to appreciate the subtle beauty. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Poppies grow wild in our fields and hedgerows during the summer, but we also grow cultivated varieties. But I don't think I've ever seen them used as cut flowers. Perhaps their association with the war dead is the reason; we wear paper poppies and make paper poppy wreaths for Remembrance Day.

Beautiful. I had some poppies growing in my yard when I moved in. I think I will definitely have to plant more this year.
I've never had luck with poppies. For me, it's irises. I feel the same way about them. How do those big beautiful blooms fit inside those small little buds? God is an artist!
I love poppies too especially when they grow wild among fields of wheat and blue cornflowers - I can picture them waving in the wind as I write these words.
Poppies make me happy. They are beautiful.
What a sweet man you have! I am lucky enough to have some of these growing in my garden although of course they are not even budding yet but I see lots of foliage. I'm glad they made it through our 5 degree winter low this go round. We don't usually get that cold here. Yours are lovely.
I love our silky California poppies too.
That is a wonderful shade of orange.
Thanks to Tetsu!
