Landscape quilt

I spent some time in my sewing room yesterday. Straightened up a bit, dusted the sewing machine and cleaned out its inner workings. Then I sat down and sewed!!!!

A few years ago I came into possession of Karen Eckmeier's book Happy Villages. I don't know HOW many times I've pulled out that book and made villages with her designs and I've used it a lot with children and adults. I've been wanting to try Ms. Eckmeier's landscape quilts and I ordered this from Amazon while I was in the States.

Yesterday I pulled out some leftover fabric (I'm not cutting into my batiks yet. Can't experiment with those!) and tried the first project in the book. I really followed page by page so none of this is very original.

Chose fabrics and cut into manageable sizes.

Using a roller cutter cut gentle curves. Iron one side down.

Decide on a layout and pin.

Top stitch in place.

The picture.

Add borders. Add freehand quilting.

Bind. My first landscape quilt. I'm ready to start on the second project!

The landscape quilt is beautiful! All the pieces of scrap fabric become very valuable when doing a project like this. P.S. I would like the dinner you had last night... I not afraid of the fish.

First off, that is a GORGEOUS quilt!!

I'm a new follower. I'm currently in the process of sewing my first quilt (by myself...first one ever was with my grandma when I was 12 years old!)

I hope you follow me back, I would LOVE some feedback on my progress!

Thanks!

You did this in one day? It turned out lovely. It is good to follow directions sometimes, then the next time you know what you want to do differently.

You did a beautiful job on this! I have the Happy Villages book too but I'm not sure where it is....I think it disappeared around the time we moved 2+ years ago.

I ordered the book after seeing your post and it came today...I needed to make my postcard for our family exchange so I made a really simple version but it was fun and I'm taking the book with me to see if my Mom and my sister want to give it a try. I think i'll try some hand embroidered accents and maybe some beads on the next ones.

Thanks for sharing. How did you do the trees? I have a photo I want to piece into a landscape quilt for an auction, but it has a teeny tiny house in it and I'm not sure how I can make it realistic and get that house in the middle of the marsh.
