Our least confident member (LCM) really got into gear and worked long and hard on a few of her homework pieces. She wouldn't even stop for lunch!
"When I get started I get into a rhythm... it's getting started that is hard."
We all feel a little guilty for pushing this friend into doing our patchwork game. She is a very busy woman and when she sits, she likes to chat more than sew. But she is such a big part of our group bringing lots of laughter and insights, and we know she loves the end results of our patchwork games that we STRONGLY suggested she participate again and we PROMISED to forgive tardiness and slow work. Mrs. Furui often ends up tutoring or making up "kits" just so our LCM can participate. It would probably be easier for Mrs. Furui to do all the work in the LCM's place but yesterday our LCM really got a lot done.
"Oh, that is so wonderful! You're doing such a great job and you are working so fast! Look how much Mrs. XXX has accomplished today! Isn't she doing beautiful work?!"
LCM was shyly pleased with all the praise but she did humbly say,
"It seems unfair that when someone like me, who isn't very good at something finally gets it done she gets showered with compliments and praise. No one bats an eye when the rest of you do things beautifully and on time and get twice as much accomplished."
That's one of the reasons we love our LCM.

Isn't it lovely that she recognises your efforts too..and her inexperience (in regards to the group). I'm glad that she brings joy to your group though in other ways, we are all God's children after all.
I am really liking the way this quilt is developing! Awesome!
I'm so sorry you didn't get to see Lorraine today, hopefully next month! Tanya that quilt is so spectacular. I think it's wonderful that you all encourage LCM to continue, that's the way we learn, it does take time - it's a great gift you give her, to teach her.
That is going to be a lovely quilt!
The wonderful thing about a group quilt is that everyone can contribute something and have ownership. Making packs is one way to help LCMs. Another is finding their best talent and using that. We have members who are very good at cheer leading, commenting and adding conversation. They don't need homework.
We all need those whose humor and cheerfulness adds to the group. At retreat, there is one woman who is the funniest and most positive person. We love to have her and she would not even need to sew a stich. One lady is another blessed member and she does not even quilt. She cross stitches. I love them all.
It is a beautiful quilt - and the entire group is so sweet to encourage LCM and teach her and accept her contributions in whatever form they are offered.
I wish that my best friend who moved back to Japan was living near you so you and her could be friends. She is a beautiful person just as you are and she also loves quilting. It would be a nice thing. :)
