Blogger returns!

How nice that Blogger came back! It gave us all an unscheduled vacation from the computer or at least from blogging. I caught up on reading blog posts but couldn't comment. I skipped posting myself of course. I replied to previous comments in my g-mail box and verified that it was not just ME that was having blogging problems. (I thought at first that I had done something dreadful.)

I wondered about how I would feel if my blog disappeared entirely and who would be to blame. It's not like I pay fees to Blogger to allow me to post. If they swept me from cyberspace what would I do?

Though in days past I had planned to back up my blog regularly, I never got around to it... Is it even necessary to save my blog? I mean I don't really re-read these things, why worry about it disappearing. But then I figured that at least the past couple months of dealing with the earthquake was "history" of a sort. SO.....

I checked my old posts (Nov. 14, 2010) about how to back up my blog. I followed my own instructions and in an hour was able to back up a year of blog posts on my external hard disk. I even appreciated that I had written that post to the future me and laughed at how well I knew myself.

So, I feel a bit caught up and actually enjoyed my "vacation" though it was a little lonely all by my lonesome.

What did you do yesterday without blogging privileges?

I answered email, read blogs, watched YouTube, read... yes, it was nice to have a break. At first I thought I did something wrong too.

If you click on the Setting Tab on the page where you type your blog, across from Blog Tools you can click on Export Blog and it will export a copy of your blog to your hard drive. I try to remember to do this after every post... and then delete the copy I made the day before.

What did I do? I visited blogs. I have a blog roll along the side bar of my blog and was able to access my favorite blogs from there. Yours is up there. And since I regularly comment, I had some email addresses in my address book and commented through emails. I'm glad nothing appears to be lost. I wonder what was going on?

I don't use blogger anymore so luckily not an issue with me. Like you I'm not the best at keeping my blog backed up but sporadically go in and catch up. Whether I'd be able to restore it is a another story but I do find myself searching for old post fairly frequently so I know I would feel the loss if they were gone.

Tried to write blog postings, but ended up did nothing because blogger was out of service. Reading some blogs, but a bit frustrated because I couldn't write any comment.
Glad that blogger back to normal now. Enjoying your blog posting again, Tanya ;)

I deleted my old blog this Jan 1 and decided to take a new direction, to
begin again. Your blog is one I stop by on a regular basis. I sew also and it's good to keep up with your work. Also nice to hear from you about how my Japanese friends are holding up after the earthquake.

I was at our beach house blissfully unaware (until I read your blog this morning) that blogger was down because I didn't bring my computer along with me this time!

I did so em much need yard clean up and pruning. I have been putting it off since I knew it would be hard and didn't want to do it alone. My husaband and son happened to be one so all three had a fine mornign working together and sharing thoughts. It turned out to be a great day.

OMGosh. I am SO addicted to the blog world. I could care less about Facebook, but I LOVE the blogs I follow. I went to my email, clicked to a reply I received, clicked to their blog and linked around from there. Got My Fix!! ~lol~ The bad thing was I found a couple of new blogs I want to follow and couldn't add them to my blog roll...but kept the address.

Where thre is a will there is a way.
Have a great weekend.
xx, Carol

I'm glad you managed to back up your blog, you have certainly been a part of making history over the last few weeks and it would have been a shame if you had lost it.

Backing up your blog is a great idea, but even better, I'd recommend printing a blog book. I've been a very happy customer twice now, turning a year's worth of blog posts into a book (Volume 1 and Volume 2). Just go to Blog2Print, pick a cover, select your dates, and arrange your pictures. It's great!

Wasn't it awful! I too backed up all my old posts, sometimes I forget what I've made and go back to see - so yes, I saved them. Now I have to save to my external. I also started two new quilts!

I bookmark all my favorite blogs, so that wasn't a problem. I just read and read, I must be more of a lurker than a commenter. It took me awhile to even notice blogger was down. I saved your post about backing up blog stuff but have never done it...
