Lunar eclipse

I am normally in bed by 9:30. Tetsu claims the TV after dinner and usually watches sports. If I have hand quilting or piecing to do I sometimes bear with the sports just to get my handwork done but I really look forward to reading in bed for 30 minutes or so. In the morning, Choco and the cats let us know that they are ready for breakfast around 5:30 and I don't find it that difficult to get out of bed, feed them and take a walk.

Last night throughout Japan, a full lunar eclipse was visible from 9:45 to 11:50. And it was a cold clear night so the moon was lighting up the countryside! And the eclipse won't be visible in Japan again for another 11 years. It seemed to me that a lunar eclipse was something to stay awake for.

Interesting... I'm not knowledgeable about astronomy so I probably didn't appreciate what I was seeing... Yes, that's the moon... Yes, it looks like a cloud is covering the moon.... Yes, the moon is hidden more than it was 30 minutes ago. This must be the eclipse!

Unfortunately, it is impossible to take a picture of a lunar eclipse with my little Sony digital camera. My hands wobbled. All I got was a spot in the sky or an orange blob. (Did you know that when the eclipse is full, the moon, hidden in the shadow of the earth, turns orange? It really did!)

At 11:50 I took my last glance of the moon from the front yard.

"Yep. That's the moon. Yep. I can now say I have seen the eclipse. Time for bed."

This morning Tetsu and I woke up after 7:00. Late for us! The cats were cranky and Choco was desperate for a potty run. I blame it on last night's eclipse.

And since I stayed up and took the pictures I'm posting them though I know they look like blobs.

Nice picture, Tanya. I couldn't even see the moon because it was so cloudy at my place last night. And the chance of having another lunar eclipse is on 2018 (if I'm not mistakenly read the info somewhere :)) And yes, the moon changes color during lunar eclipse. Nice picture of yours.

But they are cool blobs! It was too early in the morning here for me to be up seeing it so thanks for sharing what you saw.

Now I will have to post my pre-eclipse photo. My bedtime is 10 and my husband kept calling up the stairs with a blow-by-blow but the room temperature was zero and I was too cold to get any farther out of the sack. Sunday mornings come too early as it is.

Sadly we couldn't see anything of the eclipse in the UK - unless you live in the Shetland Isles. I'm an early to bed person too, but luckily Christopher takes Ruby out for a late run around midnight, so she lasts until about seven o'clock. She has to - I just can't wake any earlier, and I'm not going to start using an alarm clock again now that I'm retired!

Great pictures of the eclips.
And it looks so beautiful, don't you think so. We drove a few hours in the car last night and enjoyed the beautiful full moon and the clear sky.
But I didn't even know there would be an eclips.....

for us it was 4:30 am. Alas it was foggy at my house but freinds nearby had a clear view. Thanks for posting the pics.

That was no neat, staying up and photographing the eclipse! We couldn't see it here. And I was asleep on the couch anyway, dead tired from house cleaning. Your taking pictures of the eclipse reminds me of a story: When we were kids, my brother got a telescope for his birthday around 1962. He tried to take pictures of the moon through it using his little Instamatic camera (does anyone else remember 126 type film?) and when he got the film developed at the drugstore they didn't print the pictures - the man looked at the smudgy blobs on the negatives and decided they were accidental exposures or light leakage in the camera marking the film, not intentional photos! Brother had to persuade him to print them anyway. He even framed one for his bedroom but they weren't clear enough to even tell it was the moon.
