Cameras, cameras, cameras

SNC. Sigh.

I think I've given up. Yesterday Tetsu and I had church cleaning duty and then we went up to Central Nikko to go to a spa (Tetsu's favorite pasttime. If I have a book or my Kindle then I'm willing to go have a quick bath and sit and read for an hour.)

About 20 minutes from us is the tourist center of Nikko with a couple of Japan's most famous shrines and temples, and 15 minutes beyond that are the plains and lakes and waterfalls of Nikko. If you have ever been to Nikko you've probably visited either the waterfalls or the temples. And the Toshogu shrine is a favorite place for traditional weddings.

Yesterday as we drove through the shrine area we saw a kimono clad wedding party standing in front of a picturesque Japanese bridge.

"Oh look! What a perfect picture!.... if I had a camera...."

On the way home we stopped for noodles for lunch and then went to the electronics store. And I looked at cameras and cameras and cameras. I'm really a terrible shopper. I don't know what I want, I find better and think I want that. All the numbers and pamphlets and samples left me confused... I came home to look on the Internet which hasn't made anything any plainer.

But I'm weakening... I really need a camera.

I read your blog all the time but never comment. But having lost items drives me nuts. Could you have hung it somewhere and you aren't looking for it at that angle. When I clean I sometimes put odd things in with clean laundry (sometimes days go by before I put them away) Maybe behind books on a shelf (cats are so helpful that way). Did you already dump the garbage? Good luck, Kelly

I KNOW - I did find someone who took great pictures, and I asked her what camera she used, so that's the one I got, lol. Unfortunately they no longer made them, but I got a great deal on ebay for one. I still love it. I hope you still find yours....if you do get a new one, keep the receipt!

I've been sympathising with you all week. I get so frustrated with myself when I lose something, and just can't concentrate on anything else I convince myself I just haven't looked properly and then go and look everywhere again. It's difficult to get my mind on to anything else. I'm sure you're feeling the same, and I reckon the only answer is to get a new camera, and then count it as a bonus if the old one turns up. What I'd do is to make a list of what I need the camera to do and the range that I want to pay and then ask the person in the shop to show me just those cameras. Good luck with your hunting -- for both old and new.

I know just what you mean, too much info just makes for a confused me... hang in there, which ever camera you end up with you will learn how to use it the way you want... and all those other cameras will not matter.

You could just go by best commercials. That would make it Nikon. Those Ashton Kutcher commercials are awesome. lol Or you could get an iPhone and use that as your camera. They take wonderful pictures. Then when you lost it in your house, you could just call yourself to find it.

Good luck,
Susan in Texas

PS I have a Canon Rebel XSi that I really love, but it's not a point and shoot, which appears to be what you're looking for.

Canon P90 is my small camera. I'm no skilled photographer so this is a "dummt.proof" camera. It's small and easy to take with me. I read about it on a professional photographer's blog and he mentioned it as something he would add to his camera equipment. I thought if he mentioned it, it would be something good and it turned out to be just that.
About loosing stuff it is very frustrating and sometimes one will never get and answer how or when. It is just gone. Hope you will find a camera that you will be satisfied with and maybe in a spring cleaning moment the old one will surface somewhere in the house.

My father-in-law has been buying Consumer Reports magazine for us every year for the 27 years Larry & I have been married. If we have to make an unexpected, quick purchase, we consult their "Best Buy" list and have never been disappointed because they do such excellent research. From the 2011 December "Consumer Reports" magazine, which my husband just dug out.

Best Buys in order:

Subcompact Models: (fits in a purse or pocket)
Nikon Coolpix S8000 US$220
Cannon PowerShot SD4000 IS ELPH
US$220
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 US$200
Casio Exilim EX-H5 US$180

Compact Models:
Canon PowerShot XS130 IS US$200

Superzoom Models:
Nikon Coolpix L110 US$230
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 US $220
Olympus SP-61OUZ $200.

If I had to buy one today and price was a concern, I would get the Casio. It has an excellent
10x zoom with a somewhat inferior LCD (which I rarely use anyway). If money wasn't an object, I would get the Nikon Coolpix S8000. Go Ashton! 8)

More helpfully,
Susan in Texas

Just my two cents...I like my Nikon Coolpix and my Canon A1100IS (good deals on Ebay). Also I've found a good online photo editing (free) website, picnic. Good luck!
