After consulting with Mrs. Furui I put together a thin border on only one side of the quilt making it into a rectangle. The original pattern had resulted in 5 left over stars and so I made one more and with 6 stars the pattern stayed symmetrical. I suppose I might have given more thought to color placement or even made more stars and added another border on the bottom of the quilt, but this is enough.
There aren't many places in my house to lay out this flimsy to take a picture and obviously this isn't one of one. That lump in the middle is Chip playing hide-and-seek. Now to making backing and sandwich the flimsy for quilting.

Perfect - I love it! Too funny about Chip getting under it. No flimsy is safe from kitties....
it is looking really nice - too bad no floor space big enough.

Love Chip's hiding place..Tanya, I think you could write a photo book about cats...you surely have sooo many interesting pictures of them...I love the stars on this quilt, too....hugs, Pat in IN
Great solution, Tanya! This reminds me of many antique quilts that have a different section at the top, or cut outs for the four poster bed :) I can't keep a cat off my laid out quilt, but she's not usually under it!
The border is brillant! When I saw the sketch Mrs. Furui and you prepared I was lost but now I see the result and it's fantastic!
