New shoes

Yesterday I got the insole for my shoe to help my bunions... bunion... whatever is wrong with my foot... Innocuous looking thing that cost a bundle (but supposedly insurance will reimburse some percentage at some point.) Two weeks ago I had bought a new pair of shoes on advice from my doctor, brought them to his office, let the orthotics technician take measurements and molds of my foot and new shoes and last night I went for a fitting. The doctor put the insole in the shoe, told me to try them on, zip up the sides (zip on shoes are easier to get into) and...

WHOOPS!

The dumb zipper broke!!! My new (two week old) shoes! ...for which I had been fitted.

"You'd better go and complain to the store about that." was the doctor's advice, so I did.

I expected some hassles at the shoe store because I had no proof I'd bought the shoes at this particular store, and I had worked myself into a huff by the time I drove into the parking lot.

"I'm going to ask for the manager, I'm going to complain, and if he won't do anything then I'm going to ask for information so that I can write a letter and rant at the brand manufacturer!"

I went into my long rigmarole story of WHY I had bought these shoes at this store, WHY I needed these exact shoes and WHY I didn't have the receipt. (Not to mention WHY the shoes were so dirty though I'd only had them two weeks (walking everyday with Choco in the rice fields and forest.)

The store people were extremely nice in the face of my agitated explanation. They checked their computer system and together we pinpointed down what day and what time I had bought these shoes at their store. (I didn't know they could do that!) They gave me a new pair of shoes and I was able to walk out of the store with the new insole in place. All that unnecessary elevated blood pressure!

Now to see how effective the insole and new shoes are!

Oh Tanya, I'm cracking up - every time I get myself all worked up before what I think will be a confrontation, it usually goes very well. I'm glad it did for you and I hope the new shoes and insoles work well for you!

Tanya, while you were cooking up what to say at the shoe store, and the adrenaline was rushing...I'm guessing your feet didn't even hurt then....right ;)Hugs, Pat in IN...

I have Plantar fasciitis. It took two Cortisone Shots and some insoles from the doctors office for $60 dollars to get some relief. I bought some "Birkestock" shoes on pair for indoor and pair for outdoors and they worked wonders. It took a year to feel better. At DSW you can find some "Birkenstock"!

That always happens to me! Whenever I'm all set for an argument with a salesman in a store, they take all the wind out of my sails by cheerfully doing what I'm asking them to do!!!! Then I'm embarrassed by the way I've acted. Then I remember that I should always treat people the way I want to be treated..... :)

For many years I swallowed my complaints but now, with money so tight, I have begun to take things back to the stores. I have found if one stays calm and reasonable, the store ends up granting the request for replacement. That includes five packs of bias tape that disintegrated upon use. "But our records show you bought this five years ago". Sure, but I have a 100 year old quilt with the bias in perfect condition, this has been in the package without being used. How long would you expect it to last? Yep. Five new packs of bias tape.
Hope the feet are feeling better.

I do hope the orthotics work for you. As long as I check that I can remove the insoles my orthotics will fit into any pairs of shoes, and into my slippers, so I can wear them all the time. They don't work with wellington boots or most sandals which is a bit of a bore and I don't imagine they'd work with high heeled shoes, which doesn't matter as I don't wear them, but apart from that they're fine. I now spend shoe money on looking for fun and colourful lace-ups.

Two weeks and the zipper broke--that's maddening! Glad you were able to get a replacement with only your blood pressure raising a little bit :)

Hope the inserts help!

Oh, boy, do I ever understand that feeling of getting myself worked up about nothing! Unfortunately, I have to admit that it happens to me also. I'm glad it worked out all right for you - now, here's hoping the orthotics will help your foot pain. Just looking at the molded arch in it makes my flat feet ache! All those things about good shoes that are supposed to help just make my poor feet hurt more.
