Pictures from the fields

Even though it is April, we are still wearing down jackets and gloves. Even so, I was out with my camera again yesterday. More random pictures.

Last week brought wind storms and rain.

This old shack is just behind my house at the side of a field and in better days (not much better) the old pig farmer who owned the land used to stay here at night when his sows were birthing. Even then it had boards missing and broken windows but I'd sometimes see a small light out there late at night so I knew the farmer was braving the cold to stay near his pigs.

The farmer has been gone for quite a few years, the fields rented out, and the shack seems to hold only rusted farm tools these days. This week's storms knocked down a few more boards in the shack and I took the opportunity to peer inside. A broken TV and refrigerator in there too so maybe the pig farmer spent his nights cold but somewhat entertained.

The farmers are starting to flood their rice fields but in the morning there is a thin layer of ice that melts quickly when touched by the morning sun.

Rice fields are fed water from wells and the water is redirected to different fields by channels and man made streams. Can you see the gurgle of water coming through from the neighboring rice field?

I don't know... We still have frost pillars in the vegetable fields... Spring doesn't seem very close yet.

Your new camera seems happy to be out of its box. I am tired of down coats, no matter how glad I was to see them last year.Cherry trees are in bloom in Tokyo now so it won't be long for you.

Your new camera is a whiz! Love the pics. We're wearing winter coats here too, the sun is lovely but it's still quite chilly!

I really enjoy your pictures. It might just be your same old neighborhood to you, but it is very different from mine in Los Angeles, so it is fun for me to see what yours is like.

I never get tired of seeing your cats - this time last year I had six, but 4 of them were quite old. Old age caught up with three of them (I miss them a lot) but I still have my 16 year old and two youngsters. I take lots of pictures of them because they are just so darn cute. I didn't forget Choco - he's a handsome fellow.

I covet your new camera. Olympus makes great cameras. I have several that I've owned for many years, but maybe it is time for me to replace them. (Want to twist my arm a little?!)

I wish you a joyous Easter. It is going to be 80 here this weekend. I wish I could figure out a way to send you some of that warm air.

Great shots! My little camera will not take closeups like your last shot, or low light shots like the sunrise one.

Glad you're keeping warmer than the poor pig farmer in that shack did! I can't imagine spending the night in a little place like that.
