Yesterday I set to work on getting my Scrappy Trip Around the World put together. It was pretty much hit and miss as I picked up blocks and sewed them together and this is the result.

This will be a donation quilt and needs to be a bit bigger all the way around. I could add a couple plain borders or I could use the bunch of 2 inch 5x5 blocks that I have started (but no way near enough for a border...) As there is no deadline for this I guess I'll just keep making more 5x5 blocks and sometime this coming fall this might all "fall" together. Isn't it nice to be flexible?
I also drew quilting motifs on my Star Within a Star flimsy. And pulled out backing fabric. So the next step will be basting this... and laying it aside until I can spend a long block of time machine quilting.
And my Alabama Beauty is waiting... and my embroidery blocks.

My WIP are piling up.

You could add a plain border, then finish with your 5x5 blocks as another border. Pretty!
That is so pretty - it fell together looking as if it were planned!
I love the scrappy trips pattern from Bonnie. I am teaching this next month in Las Vegas and have been making blocks out of batik.
I like that quilt very much - it is so cheerful.
I'm afraid my WIPs consist mainly of piles of uncut fabric. ;)
There's always something waiting to be worked on isn't there? I really like your Scrappy Trip Around the World top. Years ago, when we had a local quilt shop, there was a class where we all brought ready cut strips to trade and make the Scrappy Bargello quilt. Got that done & it was huge. Had lots of strips left over so made a Scrappy Trips Around the World quilt. That one went to Japan after the earthquake. And, somewhere in my house there are some leftover blocks. A pile of strips goes a lot further than one might think. :)
Love the trip around the world quilt. i need to make one like that. Every time I see another quilt, I make my to do list longer and longer! I have to live forever to get them all done. You sure are a busy lady :)
WIPs do tend to do that piling up thing when you're not looking :) Love your trip around the world scrap quilt. I want to make one too!
Love that scrappy quilt!
That's a very pretty scrappy quilt. I just added your blog to my sidebar - I'm currently living in Japan too:). I look forward to following your blog!
That scrappy trip is gorgeous. What are the 5 inch blocks for the border??
You've made a lot of progress with your projects. I remember when I first started quilting, I could not understand how you would have WIPs and UFOs. I thought you started one project and didn't start another til the first was finished. Boy, was I wrong!! LOL
Love you blog. I like that you share the customs of Japan. My daughter's mother-in-law is from Japan. Met her husband during the war and came to America. My blog is http.//nipntuckquilting.blogspot.com
Hi Tanya! I love your scrappy trip around the world quilt. I made a square one for my granddaughters to play on - kind of like a designated "play area".
I thought of you when I saw an article recently of a 73 year old Japanese woman who is scaling Mt Everest. Her last name is Watanabe. Is she any relation to you? Quite impressive.
