Between chores Tetsu and I went out for lunch and shopping. We definitely eat too much on holidays but it is a great excuse not to cook.
The cats are not helping with the chores. Mostly sleeping.
For Christmas Tetsu bought the cats a scratch board hoping that they would take the hint and stop scratching the sofa. (They haven't taken the hint.) He sprinkled powdered catnip on the board and the kitties take turns claiming it for their own.
"My favorite spot."

Yes, just like a cat to be different, great board, Hugh made ours, but yours is so neat and tidy,(ours is too) yes, the perfect place to sit. Enjoy eating out, Tanya, nothing better than a meal someone else cooked. Cheers from Jean... p.s. have you tried it standing up? ours is vertical, and when outside, our cats scratch on tree bark.
I found our cats would not use the scratching post in a horizontal position but when I taped it to the end of the bookcase upright, they made the switch and the furniture was safe.
Aha! lightbulb moment. I saw catnip in a bag at the shop the other day, but couldn't figure out what to do with it. Looked like something you'd wrap in paper for her to smoke, and I don't encourage bad habits....
Thanks for the idea, Toots might be getting a New Years present soon
Drugs for cats! Yes, that always gets their attention! ;)
We discovered, quite by accident one year, that our cats love a small log to scratch on during their indoor winters. We lay it off in a corner where we won't trip on it, and periodically I sprinkle it with catnip. In the spring, I throw it outdoors - it is scratched fairly bare by then.
LOL! I agree with what Julie said. If your cats are scratching on the couch by standing on their hind legs and scratching up, they will probably do better with a vertical scratching post. Strangely enough, cats do seem to have preferences! Ours are all over the vertical scratching posts but hate the horizontal ones.
