I was determined to see the Wonky Word quilt reach a finishing stage so yesterday I went upstairs and made binding. Yes, you have seen a similar picture on Mrs. Goodneedle's blog. I thought that hers was such a clever picture and have been wanting to make my own binding roll so yesterday I snapped this before I put it on the quilt. Mrs. Goodneedle had posted about using leftover binding and putting it all together in a roll for scrap quilts and I thought that was a wonderful idea so I've been saving my binding ends and adding onto the roll occasionally. I still had to make more binding yesterday but the quilt is BOUND!
Look at that great fabric under the sewing machine needle! Yes, those are eyes and a little startling to have peering out of a quilt at you, but soooo colorful. The eyes got folded into the underside of the binding but the colors are just wonderful for my bright Wonky quilt!
And while I was upstairs making binding look who claimed my quilt for a quick nap. I have been working on this quilt since when? I see I joined Tonya's online class on August 29th of 2007! Oh my! I managed to get it to flimsy stage by April 13 of 2008 and then I let it sit a few months while I pondered the quilting strategy. It finally got sandwiched on July 23 and I have been dragging it around the house from chair to sofa to ottoman and even onto the floor for the past 6 months! That plus the cats claiming it as a comfortable sit and now even Choco using it as a cushion makes it dirty beyond belief! The first thing I'm going to have to do when I finish quilting it is to give it a good wash!
I'm bound and determined to finish this this weekend!

I love scrappy bindings. I save my binding leftovers for too but I don't make a roll from them...and I don't sew them together until I have the quilt in front of me because I like to add or subtract based on the colors in the quilt. You're getting close!
One step closer to a finish, well done you. Poor Choco looks so guilty. I;m really looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
Thanks to you and MRS G, I have a new use for the scraps. This is such a clever and fun way to make bindings. I'm sure a lot of quilters will do this too.
You GO girl! And I love the scrappy binding idea. Never have done that. And I should.
I've never had enough leftover binding to try this - usually just cut what I need. I do, however, get the binding sewn together and pressed before I put the sewing machine up after I finish a quilt top. It's too discouraging to have to assemble the binding before you get to apply it. All the bindings waiting to be sewn on are put in a ziplock bag in my drawer. Sometimes, I have to think a while before I remember which goes where. Must start labeling!
Choco looks pretty clean for an outdoor dog - escept for the bottom of that paws, which is definitely brown!
What a great idea! When I do make quilts, they are usually scrappy, so this would work for me. Thanks for the hint. Choco knows something good when he see's it. Perhaps you should make a doggie quilt for him!

Choco is so cute!! What a great idea with the binding. You will be so pleased when this is finished and you can just enjoy it.
Looking forward to see the finished quilt updated!
At first I thought the binding roll was a mandala--very cool in and of itself!
