Yesterday was a full day but my friend, Marlene saved me!
Marlene called just as I was finishing posting yesterday and we decided to go to a concert together in town. (Talk about throwing plans to the wind easily!) I still wanted to go help at the church in the morning, and I still had all those cookies I was planning to bake so.... Marlene said "Come on over after the concert and we can bake cookies at my place and have coffee and chat at the same time!" You don't know how much of a time saver this was!
Marlene's been in Japan about the same length of time as I have but she has an AMERICAN KITCHEN! When she and her husband built their home they had all their appliances and woodwork etc. shipped from the States so Marlene actually has counter space, built-in cupboards and a oven!!! And the oven bakes at Fahrenheit not Celsius!!!! And the oven bakes two BIG cookie sheets full of LOTS of cookies at one time!!!!!!! Let me tell you, we made fast work of all my cookie dough (I had mixed the ingredients together in the morning) and finished what would have taken me at least two days work in just a couple of hours. Great time chatting and nibbling at the cookies that we "accidentally" broke.
Marlene is a such a good friend and we had a wonderful day chatting, enjoying a concert, baking and just playing around! Thanks Marlene!

That sounds like a great day. It's good that you have such a great friend.
:-) sounds like your friendship is a real gift from heaven...
What a star your friend is - the saying 'many hands make light work' is so true and how much easier if that friend has a bigger oven :o) When we spent 6 months in France our house had no fitted furniture at all and I had a Heath Robinson affair for the kitchen with temporary shelves from Ikea and my MIL's old formica topped table. It made recipes that I used to sail through somewhat of a challenge - I admire you for even starting to tackle that sort of a baking spree in such circumstances. Hope you enjoyed the concert in your 'gained' time. BTW tasting the broken ones is the cooks perk
Just as an afterthought is that your black bag with the birds on in the background Tanya? The design looks like it would make a lovely applique pattern - if it is yours is there any chance of a photo please
O.K. if you friend has an American Kitchen, you must share your non-American Kitchen.
Oh, Tanya! What a lovely post..you and Marlene are doubly blessed to be in each other's lives! And what a wonderful bunch of cookies. Wish we could have all sampled them, too...the broken pieces are always the absolute best!!!I just so enjoy your blog, every word you share is such a part of you and all that you love. And cookies sure speak a universal language, no matter what kind of kitchen they are baked in ;)But how ever more wonderful to share both kitchen and cookies with an especially dear friend!
I'm happy for your beautiful day with Marlene.
ciao ciao
