I'm off early so this is a quickie today. Yesterday was a great day!
Wednesday I told a friend that October 11th was my 30th anniversary in Japan and she arranged to get a couple of other friends together to take me out to lunch. Such a lovely time and my friends asked lots of questions about my coming to Japan etc. I'm sure they'd heard it all before but they were letting me have my day and listened patiently. Great lunch (Thai curry!) and look at the lovely presents they gave me! A cute little book featuring a dog and cat living together with their differences. Isn't that perfect?! And a lovely silver cross to represent my missionary start in Japan. Such thoughtful friends! We've known each other since our kids were in kindergarten together so at least 18 of my 30 years I've had the privilege to call them friends!

Good friends are worth their weight in gold!
I am glad that you got to celebrate your anniversary properly.
I bet they were fascinated with the story. You tell things well, and even if they had heard the story before, I bet it has changed with the perspective of time, and they might have forgotten some of the details.
We made a major move within the US from "the north" to "the south" almost 20 years ago now and were told immediately that no matter how much we adapted, we could never be considered "native" southerners.
We should all have friends like yours... I do very much enjoy reading your blog. Here's to your 30th anniversary!!
I wish as much you it congratulates' and so many sincere friends.
