Grrr. I'm telling you. I'm having more problems putting a border on my Winding Ways than I did putting the curves together!I'm trying to piece the large curve into the border but for some reason the border keeps warping or puckering. I've taken it out three times. I realize now that it would have been much easier to just have appliqued the circle pieces onto the border but I've already cut the curves on the border piece so if I want to use this fabric I've got to do it this way. Headaches, headaches. I feel like a beginning quilter again.
I don't know if it was such a good idea showing you the step by step progress on this quilt. I'm getting tired of seeing the dang thing myself and it makes for a boring post.
Back to the sewing room....

Ricky Tims has a great method for setting curves such as this. Do you have access to any of his books? You might also want to check out his web site.

Keep going, your progress so far is beautiful. The finished quilt is going to be worth every bit of the effort. You'll be so proud of yourself!
Don't you love when you figure out after already going down one direction that it would have been easier to have appliqued it onto the border?
That's OK, the fullness can probably be quilted out!!

Your posts are never boring Tanya. I appreciate you showing us the process - I'm amazed you have all those curves done already - if I was making the quilt, you would still be reading about each curve I was piecing.
I enjoyed seeing the progress of the quilt, don't you think pictures help in taking a step back to see how the color placement is progressing? In our guild here in the states I think this quilt would be a prize winner. Take your time and it will be worth it.

Loving your Winding Ways Quilt...Good Job! Keep going with the circles in the border, they add a different twist. I would try paper foundation piecing for the border circles...that should take care of the bias problem. I can feel your pain as I made one of these a couple years ago...almost ended up in the English Walnut House...:>)

I definitely agree with the above commenter who said to applique the circle. Even though you have cut the straight borders with a curved end, you can do it. Just lay everything out flat, press under the 1/4" seam on the curved pieces, and pin it in place. It would be faster and easier to applique it onto the border pieces. You could add some secondary machine stitching inside the 1/4" seam allowance on the back side for added stability and strength if you think you need it. Don't despair, it's going to be beautiful!
